Hazing Geese with
Border Collie Dogs
Ellen and Bill visit the property
several times a day with the
dogs to lift the geese. The
dogs are friendly, biddable and
under their handlers control.
Egg Addling
Geese are imprinted from birth to return year
after year to nest in the same location. This
behavior makes goose control especially
challenging. To prevent the goose population from
increasing we addle eggs. Goose Eggs can be
addled by shaking, oiling with 100% corn oil, or
removed as a form of goose control. Once addled
the geese will sit on the eggs which will not
produce a gosling.

Addling requires permits by the US Fish &
Wildlife Services and CT Department of
Environmental Protection Wildlife Services.
Geese may become aggressive
to people and pets while
protecting their nests. Pictured
to the right is Border Collie,
Oisin (Osh-een), who moved the
geese off the nest and is
keeping watch allowing Ellen to
perform egg addling methods.
